Carbon Offsetting

What is carbon offsetting

Carbon offsetting is a climate action that enables individuals and organizations to compensate for the emissions that they cannot avoid, by supporting worthy, certified climate action projects that reduce emissions somewhere else.

Offsets are measured in tonnes of carbon-dioxide-equivalent (CO2e), with one tonne of carbon offset representing the reduction of one tonne of carbon dioxide, or its equivalent, in other greenhouse gases.

A “tipping point” for global temperatures

In 2019, the United Nations declared that we only have until 2030 to stop the irreversible damage of climate change.

If we don’t meet that deadline, we will continue to see an increased number of extreme weather events, famine, and deteriorating global health standards.

President Biden has announced an economy-wide target of at least a 50 percent cut in greenhouse gas emissions below 2005 levels by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2050.

But a lot of things have to align to meet that goal and the Government’s size means that any change will be slow, with no guarantee that President Biden’s environmental policies will outlast his administration.

One-third of all species at risk of extinction

In a recent study, researchers examined recent extinctions from climate change to estimate the loss of plant and animal species by 2070.

Their analysis of data from hundreds of plant and animal species surveyed around the globe suggest that as many as one in three species could face extinction unless global warming is reduced.

According to Our World in Data, the average American produces 16.2 tonnes of CO2 per year

All of us can take steps to reduce the amount of CO2 that we produce but it is impossible to reduce your emissions to zero.

Carbon offsetting provides a cost-effective way to help you make up the difference.

Carbon offsetting and carbon removal

Carbon offsetting and removal forms a necessary part of the world’s overall strategy for mitigating the effects of climate change.

Your membership will go towards reducing the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere by preventing new CO2 emissions from occurring and by removing existing CO2 in the air.

For example, our investments in renewable energy projects generates clean, sustainable energy while minimising environmental impact and the trees that we plant for you each month will remove existing CO2 from the air.
